Science
Our goal is to equip them with a robust scientific knowledge that will serve as a foundation for their journey into secondary school and beyond.
We make Science fun at North Star 82° !
Science
Science should be fun and, at North Star 82°, we deliver this experience through our topics and with investigation tasks. Our curriculum nurtures a sense of curiosity in our pupils towards themselves, their environment, and scientific inquiry.
Through practical lessons, pupils will become confident learners and cooperate with their friends.
We follow the White Rose Science curriculum, which emphasizes depth, progression, problem-solving, and the integration of scientific inquiry into lessons.
Some of the exciting topics that your child will learn about in science include:
Splendid skies – The weather
Wriggle and Crawl – Insects and minibeasts
Scented Garden – Plants
Predator – Animals
Might Metals – Metals and Forces
Potions – Chemistry
Scream Machines – Physics
Star Gazers – Space
Beast Creator – Food Chains
Students will have two science lessons per week, with a investigation week each term focused on developing scientific enquiry skills.
We also employ a cross-curricular approach, integrating science into other areas of the curriculum such as:
Circle Time: Engaging discussions about scientific concepts, encouraging students to share their observations and questions about the natural world.
Fine Motor Skills Activities: Incorporating scientific activities that involve fine motor skills, such as conducting experiments that require precise manipulation of tools or materials.
PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic Education) Lessons: Integrating science topics related to health, nutrition, and well-being into PSHE lessons, promoting an understanding of the scientific principles underlying personal and social choices.
Learning outside the classroom: including science focuses within Forest School and Horticulture lessons
To further engage the pupils and ensure that they make relevant connections with the real world and Science we hold regular whole-school events, such as Girls in STEM, Science Day, Wildlife and Environment Days, and outdoor science learning, and we provide a range of opportunities for hands-on exploration and skill development.
